Twist Loofah Scrubby and Loofah Sponge : For the Kitchen....or the Bath

My neighbor happened to be with me when I opened up the box from Twist. He saw the Loofah Scrubby and, assuming it was a bath product, exclaimed, "mine!" I had to wrestle it out of his hands before he'd believe that it was strictly for kitchen duty.

Twist makes sponges without chemicals or dyes, and they have a great sense of humor (just check out their web site). We love them! I've been using several of their sponges and have been very happy with the quality and efficacy.

The Loofah Scrubby has the same type of loofah you'd find on a bath scrubby (so you could use it in the bath if you want -- but I wouldn't use for the bath and in the kitchen -- pick a room and leave it there), wrapped around a sponge. I have one for the sink and one for cleaning.

The sink scrubby does a good job. It's not as effective as a steel wool pad for really caked on stuff, nor is it as abrasive as some of the popular brand scrubby sponges. Still, if I stay on top of my dishes rather than let them sit there and get crusty, the Loofah Scrubby has just enough scrub to get the job done. Plus - with other sponges I wonder just how long it takes the synthetic scrubby to break down and if the chemicals they contain harm the earth. With Twist sponges, I know they're biodegradable.

My bathroom Loofah Scrubby is for the tiles around my tub. No matter how much I wipe with a cloth or sponge, I need something rougher to get soap stains out. Again, if I clean regularly, my Loofah Scrubby does a good job of helping me get the tiles smooth again. With two scrubby sides, the sponge lasts longer.

The Loofah Sponge looks a lot like other scrubby sponges, except that it's a natural product that doesn't contain dyes or chemicals. Love that.

Again, I have two going at once. The first one I use for dishes, and it works great. The other I keep under the sink and use for cleaning off the counters. I've been very happy with this sponge for both uses. I let my kitchen get scary dirty before I clean, so I was surprised that the loofah was strong enough to get my sticky, icky counters clean.

Now that I'm using earth-friendly dish soap, counter spray, and bathroom cleansers, it's nice to have an earth-friendly sponge to use.

Eco Creds: no dyes, natural product, no chemicals, biodegradable.

Bottom Line :  An excellent eco alternative to the brand name (and other) sponges you see at the grocery store. --E.D. (Mar 10)
