Sugoi Wallaroo 170 Cruiser S/S Top : Top Performance and All Natural

This summer was my first experience with Sugoi workout wear, and I have to say, I loved every minute of it. I loved the Locust Shorts, the Wallaroo Boxers, the perfect-for-hot-humid-days Climate Tank, and most of all, the Wallaroo 170 Cruiser.

The Cruiser title sounds like it could be a vintage muscle car or a fancy urban bike, but it's a kick-ass merino wool workout top that's cut long and lean, constructed with flat lock seams, and delivers stellar performance when pushed to the limit in hot, humid weather. (The top is available in men's and women's sizes/styles; I tested the women's version.)

I'm always looking for hiking, running, and exercise gear that is cut long enough to cover my low cut pants and shorts. At 5' 11" it's hard to find women's apparel, much less workout wear, that gives me the belly and lower back coverage I want. It's also hard to find women's gear that isn't foofed up or made in pastel colors. Sugoi has kept the Wallaroo 170 Cruiser sleek and simple. A front yoke, thin ribbing around the neck, and the capped sleeves identify the top as a women's garment. Then we're down to business; I love that.

So, on a 90 degree day when I knew I'd be walking 40 minutes to the light rail station (wearing a pack), then taking a train for a ten minute ride, then catching a ride to a friend's house for dinner, I knew I needed a top that could wick and breathe. Most important, I needed a quick-drying top that wouldn't stink by the time dinner started.

I could not have picked a better power-walk-dinner-party top. I arrived at my friends house, discarded my pack, and jumped into the dinner party spirit. I had some water, played with the kids. By the time we sat down to eat, my shirt felt dry. And it didn't smell. Awesome.

Bottom Line: Because this top is so long and lean, it's a shame to just wear it for exercising. I wish I had a few of them to wear with jeans because I just love the fit. Plus, the more clothes I have that don't smell, the less laundry I have to do. So I save time, and I conserve water and electricity (Aug 09)
