Seventh Generation Free & Clear Automatic Dishwashing Detergent: Safe, Effective, Scent-Free

A few years ago I bought a compact, portable dishwasher. It turned out to be a bummer of a purchase because it's too small to accommodate my large dinner plates. So, I mostly use it for cutlery, cups and glasses, and food storage containers.

After the big mistake of using one of the big brand name dishwashing liquids and having to leave my condo to avoid the chemical smell, I bought a box of Seventh Generation Automatic Dishwashing Detergent. It's been at least a couple of years, and I still have that same 50-ounce box! Ok, so I don't use the dishwasher regularly, but I also don't need to use much of the powder when I do use it.

Since my dishwasher is so small, I only use a little bit of soap, set the machine to "light wash," and a few minutes later, I get super clean dishes, pots, and cutlery. Not that I care about streaks or spot, but I don't have any. Or any residue. The only problem I sometimes encounter is a little piece of cooked on food -- my fault for putting in spoons with caked on peanut butter on them.

Eco Creds: non-toxic, no phosphates, no bleach, no dyes, no artificial fragrance, not tested on animals, safe for septic and greywater systems, no petroleum-based cleaners.

Bottom Line: Gotta love a company that cares about the earth and considers people with asthma and allergies. My dishes have never been so clean.--E.D. (Aug 09)
