Preserve Food Storage : Ingenious Design

There's a lot to love about Preserve's food storage containers.

First, unlike any other food containers I've ever used, they have screw-top lids! So convenient, so easy to seal. I hate messing around with trying to make the lids of my old plastic containers click shut--or worse, trying to make a seal with the lids of those flimsy disposable containers. Even old salsa containers are tricky to snap shut when filled with the last cup of soup.

So, there's that. A strong seal, no spills. There's also the fun, bright color, which makes a big difference in my drab little kitchen. They can also be tossed in teh dishwasher, making them even more convenient (and eco-friendly).

Naturally, they're made out of plastic -- the type of plastic (#5) you can't always toss in your street-side pick-up bins, such as yogurt containers and ketchup bottles. You can even do your part to recycle by shipping all your #5 containers to Preserve at: Preserve Gimme 5,
823 NYS Rte 13, Cortland NY 13045. (Read the web site instructions first.)

So, you get to reuse plastic until it's all used up then send it back to be made into a product that can be reused and returned, and so on, and so on, and so on.

Available in large (3.2 cups) and small; sold at Whole Foods Markets and at Target. See website to locate store nearest you.

Bottom Line: Not only super eco, but super functional. Send in your old plastic and stock up on some new plastic.--E.D. (Oct 08)
