The North Face Mountain Sneaker :
Street Appeal With Trail Treads
When I first saw The North Face's Mountain Sneaker I thought of my old favorite tennis shoe from the early 80s, Nike's Meadow Supreme.
Different colors, different materials, different soles, but the same simple, round-toe look. The Mountain Sneaker is a cross between a tennis shoe and a trail shoe, which makes it an ideal every day shoe for me. It's great for kicking around in, and still stable enough with its treaded sole to wear on long walks. .
I also appreciate the eco creds -- the bamboo material used in the upper, the recycled rubber used on the sole, footbeds made out of potato starch, a wicking bamboo lining, and cork mixed into the EVA midsole. It's not 100% eco, but it's a great effort.
I found out later that the shoe is shanked (and the shank is made out of bamboo), which is why it has held up so well on many long power walks. I like that the shoe has both a toe bumper and an additional rubber bumper that around the front of the shoe.
Available in men's, women's, and boy's sizes. The men's shoe is available in three colors.
Bottom Line: It's nice to have a casual tennis shoe that's also trail-ready.--E.D. (Dec 08)
