Mountain Khaki's Men's Original Mountain Jean : Eco-Friendly, Alpine Tough

I just blew the knees out of the only pair of jeans I own, so my new Mountain Khakis Mountain Jeans came just in time. These organic denim pants are built with the best of all worlds: thick and burly, but soft and supple. I'm a huge fan.

The Mountain Jean overcomes many of the obstacles that normally prevent me from wearing jeans in the first place. First, they fit great. They're not too baggy, not too tight, and the rise is perfect. I've worn so many jeans where my belt cinches up near my bellybutton, which is monumentally annoying. These Mountain Khakis have a nice 10" rise, and button up exactly where they should. And while I'm not much of a style guy, I gotta say I can't stand pants with tapered legs. I might feel differently if it were 1986, but thankfully it's not -- and thankfully the Mountain Jeans have a relaxed, straight leg. There's also a gusseted crotch, so when I get the inclination to head to the climbing gym after an afternoon on the town, I still have the freedom of movement that I love and need.

Aside from the fit, the material is fantastic. While other jeans never quite break in, the Mountain Khakis have been soft from the get-go. In fact, they're pre-washed so I didn't have to worry about them magically changing sizes in the wash. However, just because they're comfortable doesn't mean they're not burly. There's high-quality stitching throughout, with triple stitches and bar tacks in the important areas. I wore them out on a photo mission lately and was crawling around on my hands to get cool shots of elk. No wear at all.

I also really like Mountain Khakis' commitment to environmental stewardship. The company is a member of One Percent for the Planet, an alliance of businesses that donate a percentage of their earnings to environmental causes. Recent donations have gone to the American Alpine Club, the Access Fund (for climbing advocacy), the Snake River Fund, and the Grand Teton National Park Alliance -- all of which are organizations I heartily support. It's important to me to be on the same page as the companies whose products I wear.

The Mountain Jean comes in a huge variety of sizes, so if you're tall and skinny like me, you can find something with long legs and a normal waist.

Available in dark and light blue denim.

Bottom Line : Bomber construction, nice fit, stretchy material -- one of the nicest jeans I've ever worn.--N.W. ( Dec. '08)
