Mountain Hardwear Lofoten Pants : They'll Grow on You

Mountain Hardwear's Lofoten Pant is not the baggy, scratchy hemp pant from the past. This hemp pant is incredibly soft, looks like linen (sans wrinkles), and fits like a low-rise jean.
The hemp/polyester blend material is so soft; when the pants first arrived I couldn't stop touching them. Even better, the Lofoten pant is easy to care for - just wash and tumble dry on low. (Actually, I don't even put mine in the dryer.)
To pass my trouser test, any pant has to have functional pockets. The Lofoten has the requisite button flap back pockets and two roomy front pockets, plus two secret pockets. (I love secret pockets.) There's also a small, decorative pocket on the waistband.
I like the contrast stitching and the way MH displays their logo very discreetly. I also like that with a few snaps, I can convert these flowing straight-leg pants into tapered-leg pants. (Sorry, I loved the 80s.)
My fashionable friend's fashionable husband once told me that if pants have belt loops, a belt is a must. Well, the Lofoten pant doesn't have belt loops, but I can still cinch the waistband with an internal drawstring when I'm in my "I'm too sexy for my pants" modes. (Which I haven't been in for quite a few years, but still, good to know it's there if I ever decide to lose my gut.)
