Loomstate Penelope Shirt Dress : My Summer Uniform

Please, do not be put off by the photo at left. It has got to be the most unflattering photos of one of the most flattering dresses I've ever seen.
It's Loomstate's Penelope Shirt Dress, a sweet, simple, silk and organic cotton shift for spring and summer. For some reason I don't have an image for it - just this drab photo I pulled off of the Barney's web site. Whatever.
I love shirt dresses, and I love this dress. Had I known it was available in black, I might have been bummed when Loomstate sent me a tester dress in Mulberry. I never wear color. But I had to admit that this sharp little slip-on shirt dress looked great on me. Who knew. Of course, it's not RED red, but a softer, berry type red that happens to look wonderful against my white skin (and hopefully, soon, my bronzed tan arms).
This soft tunic could be a night shirt or my daily uniform when I summer in Tuscany or my summer dress-up dress. It's basically two pieces of material stitched together at the top and along the sides. So there are no real sleeves -- it's sort of a cap/raglan effect. I love how the dress just hangs and flows around my body. It comes with a little belt if I want to cinch it up at the waist (as photo shows), but I would never want to do that because I'm too carefree in my Penelope Shirt Dress to fuss with a belt.
I love the large front pockets. When I stroll through the Tuscan countryside in the afternoon, I can carry handfuls of hazelnuts to sustain me until I return to my farm house. The three small polo-shirt style buttons are cute and give me the option of lowering the gently scoop neck to show of my fancy jewelry. Ahhhhhh.
Available in: P, S, M, L. Looks like black is the only color available at this time online -- but I bet it's super fancy.
Bottom Line: A fabulously simple summer dress that I'll be taking on every vacation. -- E.D. (April 09)
