Lavera Go & Glow Sunless Tanning Lotion : Go Natural

If you're looking for a sunless tanning lotion that won't make you smell like you just stepped out of a vat of chemicals (and who isn't), then you might like to try Lavera's Go & Glow Sunless Tanning Lotion.

I recently tried it on my unpleasantly pale legs, and am happy to report that the lotion gave them a nice light tint in just a few hours. I applied it after showering and using a sugar scrub to exfoliate my skin. Before I applied the Lavera GO & Glow Sunless Tanning Lotion, I rubbed some regular lotion over my knees and ankles, the two areas on my body that absorb lotions extremely well. I did this because I can end up with extra dark knees and ankles if I apply sunless tanning lotion directly to those areas. After that, I was ready to start my sunless tanning session.

Since this product comes in a spray bottle I assumed that I could just spray it on and go. However, while reading the product brochure, I noticed that the product was referred to as a lotion. I was confused. Was it a lotion or a spray? My question was answered as soon as I pressed the spray pump. It's a watery lotion that's just thin enough to get through a spray nozzle. You can't actually just spray and go or you would have globs of lotion running down your legs. You have to actually rub it in and around. That didn't end up being a problem because it spread easily and evenly over my skin.

I'm not the most patient person, nor am I a perfectionist, so I'm sure my application wasn't as thorough as it could have been. With other sunless tanning lotions, I've seen streaky results thanks to my impatience. However, with the Lavera Go & Glow Sunless Tanning Lotion, the results of my amateur application didn't leave my legs streaky at all. I think that is in part to the consistency of the lotion - not too thick or too thin, which made it easy to spread around.

With just one pass of the lotion, my legs looked very lightly tanned after just a few hours. However, I was looking for a slightly darker color, so I applied a second application later that evening and a third application the next day. I like that the lotion dries quickly, so I can get dressed soon after rubbing it in instead of having to walk around the house half naked waiting for it to dry. Also, I can apply it and then shower about 30 minutes later and it doesn't seem to affect the results. After the third application, my legs were a light tan color that I was happy with, yet it didn't make them look unnaturally tan.

The thing I like most about the Lavera sunless tanning lotion is that it's completely natural, containing 100% plant- and sugar-based self-tanning agents. It also contains minerals that give the lotion a slight shimmer, as well as moisturizing ingredients that make my skin soft.

I wondered how it could tan the skin with only natural ingredients, so I checked their web site. It reads "Two natural ingredients, vegetable-derived DHA (Dihydroxyactone) and the sugar agent Erythrulose, give your skin a wonderful fresh tan on a natural basis. These two ingredients react with the amino acids of the skin, resulting in a brownish tint of the pigment." Sounds good to me.

Lavera also makes sunless tanning lotion in traditional lotion formulations (i.e., you rub it on not spray it on) for body and face.

Bottom Line: Since I'm no longer someone who sunbathes, my tan now comes from a bottle. I love the pleasant smell of the Lavera Sunless Tanning Lotion. No one can tell (or rather smell) that my tan is fake anymore!--N.S. (June '10)
