Juice Beauty Organics to Clear Skin : 30 Days to a Fresher Face

If you haven't already read my reviews of Juice Organics products, you don't know that this California-based company has saved my skin from adult--onset acne. (Along with Dr. Hauschka, my other favorite skin care line.)

I love the cleanser, the serum, the moisturizer. Love them. So naturally, I wanted to try some items from their fancier line, Juice Beauty.

Just in time for the holidays, I decided to try out JB's Organics to Clear Skin kit, which is comprised of Cleansing Gel, Blemish Clearing Serum, Oil-Free Moisturizer, and Green Apple Peel. The kit also includes a headband made out of bamboo fibers. Cool. I finally tossed that dingy bandana that I used to use to hold up my hair when I washed my face.

Juice Beauty products, including the items in my kit, contain "Certified Organic" ingredients. JB claims that their total organic content is 95%, which is reassuring when you consider that (according to them) 64% of what we put on our faces is absorbed by the skin.

So, back to the products. I use the gel first, which has a faint smell of apple juice and contains cherry and lemon juices. That's for antioxidant power. I use a small face brush to lightly rub on the gel, then rinse with water. My face feels clean and fresh, and I'm so grateful (due to my sensitive skin and many allergies) not to have any chemical smell or residue on my face.

Most days, I simply use the moisturizer--my skin soaks it up but never feels oily. I love being able to moisturize without having a greasy face--my skin actually feels dry (not dried out but dry as in oil-free). JB calls it a "matte finish." I agree with that.

At night, I use the blemish serum after washing. With hydroxy fruit acids and salicylic acid, this serum is designed to get rid of dead skin that can clog your pores. I've often used salicylic acid when needed (it's about $6 at the grocery store), but I prefer this serum because it also contains lots of fruit and plant extracts that are good for my skin and feel better on my skin that salicylic acid alone.

It's a wonderful little system, and I love that there are no toners. For one thing, when I use a cleaning system with toners, I always end up using all the toner before the other products because I cheat. I just mist or dab some onto a cotton ball to "wash" my face. Also, toner is a drag when I'm traveling -- more likely to leak.

The kit also contains a light mask designed to exfoliate the skin. It's designed to be used once a week. The instructions warned me that I might feel tingling--that means it's working. After a few minutes, I rinse it off, apply the moisturizer, and I'm good to go.

I love that JB makes plant-based products (that are almost entirely organic) that don't have chemicals, dyes, perfumes, parabens, petroleum derivatives, and all that other junk. When I use these face care systems, my face feels clean, clear, and in control. Another bonus: the products all seem to be pretty concentrated. I only need to use the smallest drop.

I also appreciate the instruction card in the kit, which contains all sorts of useful health information presented in a fun graphic style. A few of my personal favs: "Always go to bed with a clean face," Healthy skin requires healthy nutrition," and "Laugh, laugh, laugh."

Bottom Line: If you're looking for cleaner face care systems, try Juice Beauty. They have a variety of formulations for different skin types.--E.D. (Nov '08)
