Innate MC2 Container : Portable Without Plastic
Along with changing over from plastic water bottles to stainless steel bottles, I've been trying to store more food in non-plastic containers. I thought my only option was glass--great for the fridge, not so great for road trips, hikes, or any outings with a toddler. So, I was happy to receive an an Innate container to test. It's made out of stainless steel, perfect for fumble-fingers like mine and for bouncing around in a backpack or a diaper bag. The lid, made of silicone, pops open into an eat-on-the-go bowl. Very handy. I use it most often on day trips, where it's held things like grilled broccoli and carrots. Thanks to the lid's tight seal, the rest of my bag doesn't end up smelling like a salad afterward. The folks at Innate suggest that the container can be used during the day while backpacking to re-hydrate dried food, saving stove fuel and prep time at night. Check their web site for a few suggested recipes. I have another suggestion, too--use it as tasteful modern gift wrap. That is, if you can bear to part with it. I was looking for something sleek to hold a birthday present for my just 30-year-old friend, and this cheery container would have been perfect. But then I realized I couldn't part with it. Instead, I packed my friend's present in recycled cardboard box and promised him -- next ski trip the treats are on me. Size: Container, 26 oz. Lid (when used as a bowl), 13.5 oz. Weight, 8.5 oz. Colors available: Aqua Blue, Pea Green, Ballet Pink, Canadian Red (lid colors). Eco Creds: Container: food-grade stainless steel, BPA-free. Lid: food-grade silicone. Bottom Line: Not your mother's Tupperware! And safer than glass.--C.W. (Mar '10) Buy Online: $16,
