Haiku Tribute Bag : Pretty Functional

I've always been a day pack gal. I want my stuff with me, but I want it out of the way and my hands free. This has always been my way, and I've never met a purse that tempted me until I saw the Haiku Tribute bag a couple of months ago at a trade show.

The Tribute bag caught my eye because, like a good haiku, it's simple and elegant. I don't want a flashy bag with a busy design; I want something more stylish. And I want black. I like the Bough design because it's subtle and refined; the burgundy-colored branches provide a pleasing contrast against the black material. (The bag is also available in "Cocoa.")

Most of all, I want a bag that works. I started using the Haiku Tribute bag a couple of months ago, and I haven't even thought of my old day pack once. The shoulder strap is adjustable, so I can lengthen it and sling the Tribute bag around my neck and carry it like a messenger bag, behind me. So, once it's on, I forget about it and go about my business. Of course, I sometimes get stopped by women who want to know where I got my purse!

The Haiku Tribute bag is roomy and has two super functional pockets on the inside. There's plenty of space in the purse for my wallet, date book, keys, a Lara bar, and a few other items. I use the zippered inner pocket for stashing my lip balm and other cosmetic products. On the other side of the bag's interior, there's a velcro-sealed pocket that I use for my cell phone and sunglasses.

On the outside of the bag there are large sleeve-style pockets on each side of the bag. I love these! I'm always running late, so I end up stashing my water bottle on one side and papers in the other Another cool feature: the top of the purse zips closed. Most of the time I leave the top open, but it's nice to have the option of securing it when I'm walking around in crowds.

I've been surprised at how much I like using the Haiku Tribute bag. It holds a lot, but it's not too heavy to hang around my neck. It's also much easier to access my things than a day pack since all I have to do is grab the bag and reach into it. I've never been a girly girl, but I feel more like the lady I am with this bag...and I like it! Tromping around town with a pack on my back wasn't really helping me cultivate my city look. Finally, and again like a good haiku, this attractive, functional bag inspires me to think bigger thoughts. Part of Haiku's "Rumi Collection," the Tribute bag bears on its burgundy side panel an embroidered Rumi quote, "Every enemy is your medicine, your beneficial alchemy and heart healing." The stitching is almost the same color as the panel, so I don't notice the message every time I use the bag. When I do, it's a welcome pause in my day.
