Kate's Grizzly Bar: Organic Nutrition in a Meal Replacement Bar
I'm a big fan of nutrition bars because I'm always eating on the go, but I'm also very selective. I want all natural ingredients (even better if they're organic), enough calories to replace a meal, and as much as I love sweets, I actually want a bar that doesn't taste sugary. So far, so good with Kate's Grizzly Bar! Made out of organic oats, honey, peanut butter, dark chocolate (antioxidants!), rice nuggets, and dried fruit and seeds, this chunky bar has become my new favorite. I love the peanut butter and honey taste, with a hint of chocolate - just enough to give me a treat but not so much that I feel like I'm eating candy. I also like the consistency of the Grizzly Bar. It's dense, but doesn't taste or feel dry or chalky, like those boring granola bars from the 70s. I think the honey keeps it moist because when I chew it I don't get that cardboard feeling in my mouth that I get with some other bars. The rice nuggets give the bar a nice balance - moist, crunchy, and substantial. The bar holds together well, too, which is nice. Nobody needs a crumbly energy bar! At 360 calories, the Grizzly Bar is perfect for those days I skip breakfast and hit the wall two hours later. It's also ideal for hiking and day trips where I need to refuel but don't want to carry a lot of food in my pack. One thing I didn't notice until I'd eaten a few of these bars--the bar is two serving sizes. So, if you have the will power to eat half of one and save the rest for later, it makes a nice snack, too. Kate's Real Food also makes the Tram Bar and the Caz.Bar. Available at health food stores and coops, as well as outdoor gear retailers. See shopping link below. Bottom Line: Nutritious, organic food-on-the-go for active folks.-- E.D. (April '11) BUY ONLINE : $3.99 / 3 oz. bar (also sold by the case). Manufacturer's Site: www.katesrealfood.com |
