Graze Organic Cotton Sandwich Bags : Multi-Use Reusable Pouches for Food and Essentials
A cotton sandwich bag is an interesting concept. I can see where the company is going with this, but I think there are certain foods you wouldn't want to put into a cotton container. However, I can see several other uses for this plastic bag alternative. While traveling through Europe recently, I used it to store grapes, crackers, Hershey Kisses, and apple slices. I found that it kept the different food items clean and fresh enough, even after a few hours of storage. I wouldn't suggest putting a food item in it that has sauce or spreads (such as sandwiches) on or in it. It seems like that would make a bit more of a mess that could leak through the pouch. I have also used the cotton bag as an organizer in my purse, storing in it such handy items as lip balm, Band-Aids, and hand salvet. The Velcro closure at the top is strong and does not open on its own at all, which is a huge plus when I'm using the bag for food storage. The bag is easily washable, either by hand or in the washing machine. It didn't seem to shrink much and kept its shape fairly well. Because its cotton, it dries in a day on its own if I wring it out well after washing it. Overall, I like the bag and can think of several things to store in it, aside from food. I don't think these handy little cotton bags will completely replace our dependence on plastic bags, but hopefully alternatives like these pouches will help decrease our use of nonrenewable goods. Editor's Note: I've been using these handy bags, too. The small bags are ideal for little snacks like pretzels and baby carrots. I wouldn't use them for sandwiches with dressing or other "wet" foods, but I, too, have found the useful for organizing my purse (which is really a small day pack). I've also used the sandwich pack to toss in a bagel with a small reusable container of peanut butter. Nothing but crumbs to empty out when I get home. Nice. The Graze bags are also useful when I'm packing food and just need a clean place to store it so I don't have apples or oranges rolling around in my bag. These tight-seal pouches are also very useful for travel. When I'm trying to pack light for just a weekend away, I either toss all my medicine bottles into the sandwich-size pouch or count out my individual pills and stash them in a smaller pouch for easy, flat packing. Eco Creds: organic cotton, water-based inks, reusable product. Bottom Line: These multi-use storage bags made out of organic cotton work well with snacks (ideal for people with small children) and other daily essentials. --N. S.
