EO Travel-Size Products : Bring the Good Stuff With You

I'm all for safety, but this three-ounce limit on body products at airport security is a drag. Who has time to transfer their fancy all-natural products into tiny containers? And who wants to use the chemically-laden trial size shampoos and soaps they sell at most drugstores. Not me.

I always wait until the last minute, and I'm always running late for the airport. Last trip I ended up grabbing my bath products, throwing them in a plastic bag from the grocery store, and shoving them into my carry-on bag. Big mistake. Apparently, one cannot enter San Francisco with less than three ounces of Hamadi Leave In in an eight ounce container, or of Juice Organics facial cleanser in a six ounce container, and so on.

The three ounces or less need to be a three-ounce container. So, faced with replacing all my essential bathing and hair products, which would have cost more than $100, I paid $20 to check my bag. Lesson learned. Get products I like in small containers if I'm going to be too unorganized to transfer them into my travel-sized containers. (Click here to check TSA regulations for your next trip.)

I've loved EO products since I first tested their "My Dogs Are Barking" foot care kit many years ago when I was writing The Little Foot Care Book. Now, I'm happy to be sampling many of their new products. On my recent trip to Portland I was running late and didn't have time to figure out which bath items to pack, so I just grabbed the four 1.5 ounce bottles of EO products the company sent me and tossed them into my bag.

The Moisturizing Shower Gel is lovely. Not too thick, but more like the consistency of a daily shampoo, this lavender-scented gel is a wonderful shower companion. A little drop goes a long way, so even though my boyfriend, Spidey, and I were both using it for several days, I have plenty left in the bottle for more trips.

What I love about EO products is that they're pure and natural, they feel clean, they rinse off well, and because they have a natural scent that comes from essential oils, they smell pleasant not overpowering. There's definitely a little aroma therapy benefit when using EO products, but the smell is never intrusive. They seem to have found a perfect balance in their formulations - efficacy, pampering, natural, and confident.

I also used the Sweet Orange Shampoo, a gentle citrus-scented shampoo that worked really well in my hair, followed by the Rose Geranium & Sweet Orange Conditioner. I don't need to wash my hair every day because it's pretty dry, but because I wear a lot of product in my hair to keep it under control I like to wash and condition daily to prevent waxy build-up on my scalp.

Finally, Spidey and I both love the Grapefruit and Mint Everyday Body Lotion. Like the other EO products, the lotion has a subtle, scent and contains natural and organic plants, vitamins, and other wholesome ingredients. I used it as a daily lotion on my legs, and we both used to give each other back rubs after long days of wandering the city and stuffing ourselves with gelato.

The lotion absorbs quickly, doesn't leave a greasy film, and has a very nice consistency. Again, not to thick, but not runny either.

Eco Creds: Check EO's site for complete list of product ingredients, but here are a few contained in shower gel: organic aloe vera, chamomile extract, and calendula extract; white tea leaf; vitamins E and A. Recycled PET bottles. Recyclable bottles.

EO products are available in a variety of natural scents and formulations for different skin and hair types.

Bottom Line: Wonderful, all-natural products that are available in easily portable (and airport security-proof) packaging. Priced right, too. Love this stuff.-E .D. (April '10)
