Ecover Boat Wash and Wax : Smooth Sailing
As a boat detailer who washes more than a dozen boats a week, I enjoyed using Ecover's Boat Wash and Wax on a salty 92' yacht that just got back from a cruise. Generally, when I wash a boat, I simply mix the soap and water in a bucket, then dip my deck brush into the bucket, and scrub away. The instructions for the Ecover Boat Wash and Was guide the user to add the product to a bucket of cold water, apply with a sponge or clothe, then dry with a cloth or chamois. The idea here is to "apply" the product to the gel coat as you would a soft wax. I ended up doing it my way. For this salty 92' yacht, Ecover's Boat Wash and Wax did a great job at cutting through the fine layer of salt on the gel coat. I didn't have to go over any areas twice; once was just fine. I used it on the varnished rails, and it rinsed away with no streaks. A nice bonus of using this product: it contains carnauba wax, so it will add a mild UV protectant to your gel coat. It's not a replacement for waxing your boat, but rather a great way to help your wax last a little longer. It won't cut through oxidation (that's what rubbing compound or cleaner wax is for), but it won't strip any wax as some stronger boat cleaning products do. Another nice beneift - the Wash and Wax is plant-based and low sudsing, so once I rinse it off there are no suds floating around in the water. Bottom Line: I think this is a great boat soap to use, either in the the way I used it or the way it suggests on the back of the bottle. It will also help keep your boat clean in between wax jobs. -- N.S. (June 09) Price: $6.99 (buy online at greenboatstuff.com) Manufacturer's Site: www.ecover.com |
