Hybrid Lite Solar Flashlight : So Eco, and It Floats

I'm sort of obsessed with flashlights, although whenever I go my flashlight box, I can't find one that works because the batteries have gone bad. Worse, sometimes the batteries have leaked and ruined the flashlight. Grrrr.

What I love about Hybrid Lite's Solar Flashlight is: I'll never need a battery because I just need the sun. I leave the flashlight on my window sill during the day, and by the time I go to bed it's fully charged. The photovoltaic cells absorb both sunlight and the light in my living room, and when I turn it on all that light gets powered through a bright one watt LED bulb.

I can charge the flashlight as many times as I want. As a backup system, the Solar Flashlight contains a tiny lithium battery that will hold a charge for seven years. Because the light doesn't use regular batteries, it's super lightweight, there's no maintenance cost, and it floats. It's not designed to be an underwater flashlight, but it is waterproof to 80 feet.

I've been using it a lot for late night walks. It's not a high powered flashlight, but throws a good beam for helping me get around my neighborhood in the dark. Thanks to my Solar Flashlight, I didn't step on (and probably kill) two snails a few weeks ago. I also didn't trip on uneven sections of the sidewalk. When I go out at night, I toss it in the car just in case I break down. Because it's so light weight, I don't mind carrying it in my tiny day pack.

Another use: I often stay up late reading magazines, so I love having this super lightweight flashlight with me in bed as my reading light. Yes, I'm too lazy to get out of bed to turn out the lights and too poor to buy a Clapper. When I'm just about to drift off, it's just on click, and I'm in the dark.
