Divine Chocolate : THE Golden Ticket

I was so focussed as I strolled the aisles of Seattle's GreenFest last weekend. I was looking for apparel, accessory, and footwear companies with eco-friendly products to review for this site.

Then I saw a huge black sign with scripty gold lettering, "Divine," and I was suddenly obsessed with how I had to add a chocolate section to this site. I'll get to the fancy wrapping in a minute. First, the chocolate.

I ate almost all of it that evening, saving just a few tiny squares for right now so I can refresh my mouth with the amazing experience of tasting Divine Mint Dark Chocolate. It's fresh, it's real, it's got tiny little nibs that give it a mildy crunchy texture. The mint flavor is so vivid. Wow. So those two little squares are gone.

Now the Divine Fruit and Nut Dark Chocolate. Same rich dark chocolate, but this time tiny nibs of currants and almonds. The nibs add a very subtle crunch and flavor, but what shines through is the dark chocolate. Like the plain Dark Chocolate bar, Divine's chocolate is rich without tasting sugary or too sweet. It's sharp without being bittter. And now I have just a few squares left of the Dark Chocolate bar. Divine also makes a plain Milk Chocolate bar and a Milk Chocolate with Hazelnuts bar. Also delicious (I had friends sample these bars) - although I am strictly a dark chocolate women.

Divine is made from cocoa beans grown by a cooperative of Ghanian farmers. The colorful wrapping of each bar contains a variety of tradtional West African Adinkra symbols. Inside each wrapper, fancy gold foil covers the chocolate. Divine chocolate is Fair Trade Certified. (And wheat-free, vegan, naturally flavored, and free of preservatives.) Visit their site to read more about this amazing company.

Available in bars, cooking cocoa, drinking chocolate, packaged brownies, easter egg shapes, and more....

Bottom Line: I would buy this chocolate to give as presents because of its colorful wrapping and superior qualitiy -- but I'd probably eat it all before I got home from the store. -- E.D. (April 09)
