Dahlia Drive Playoff Slip Dress
I'm old enough to have worn slips under dresses and skirts back in the day...but I'm not too old to appreciate wearing a slip as a dress! Dahlia Drive's funky Playoff Slip dress is fresh, fun, and fashionable. Each Playoff Slip dress starts as a pre-loved slip before Wendy Van Riesen, the artist behind Dahlia Drive, transforms it into a fancy frock. Van Riesen silk screens and hand paints images and designs onto the slips, sometimes also adding lace or other adornments. Her designs are inspired by nature (she likes to paint flowers and fish), the female form, and modern masters such as Chagall, Picasso, and Klee.
The Playoff Slip Dress I've been wearing is black with white designs. There's an anatomically correct spine along the back of the dress a la Leonardo da Vinci, and a bold swirly design on the front of the dress. What I love about the Playoff Slip dress is that it's both vintage and contemporary. It's also original. In fact, it's wearable art! I can't deny that love all the compliments I receive when I wear it. Eco Creds: made out of recycled slips.
This dress is also very comfortable. It's a slip, after all, so it weighs almost nothing, and it fits well. The length of my Playoff Slip Dress is perfect. It hits just a couple of inches above my knees, so it's flattering but still long enough that I can wear it for so many occasions. The Playoff Slip Dress comes in a variety of colors and styles; some are more tank style with wider shoulder straps, others have thinner straps, and some have bodices. Check out the Dahlia Drive website to see more samples. Van Riesen also takes custom order. Prices for the Playoff Slip dress start at $150 (Canadian). Bottom Line: I love my Playoff Slip dress. It's unique, it's vibrant, and it always puts me in a festive mood when I wear it.--E.D. (July 2011) BUY ONLINE : $150+ Manufacturer's site : www.dahliadrive.com
