Color Aromas Mister : "Sunlight in a Bottle"
I don't want to be negative, but I really hate winter. I don't mind Seattle's rain or the temps (I'm from the midwest, so the 30-40 degree lows here are not cold to me), but the months of grey absolutely flatten me. This winter I tried something new, a Color Aromas essential oil mister by Conscious Colors. I'm a big believer in the healing and healthful properties of essential oils. As a long-time yoga practitioner, I've also experienced the power of Chakra balancing exercises and meditations. All of the Conscious Colors misters are formulated to soothe and/or stimulate a specific chakra. I had a brief phone consultation with the company's founder, who suggested that Deep Violet would be the best mister for my blahs. This formula contains lavender, frankincense, and jasmine. (I don't recall what frankincense smells like, but the other two oils are my favorite scents). Deep Violet is designed to work the crown chakra, which is associated with "awareness, spirituality, and calm." Ask anyone who knows me - "calm" is not my natural state. So, I gave it a try. Before I sat down to work each afternoon, I misted the room with my super chakra potion. Then I would walk around the room making huge circles with my arms to both embrace and disperse the mist. (You don't need to do it; I just felt the need for some small ceremonial act.). Yea, it worked. I felt better when I used the mister. It's no silver bullet, nor is it a shot of caffeine, but it does provoke an energy shift. When I use it, the mist helps me tap into a more relaxed state so that I can focus on the task at hand. It's a subtle experience - sort of like the way a song can evoke a memory or mood. The oils are pure so the scent isn't overpowering or clingy. The misters are supposed to "affect the body's aura and environment." I would say my mister did a good job of that. Using essential oils is not like plugging in an air freshener (which simply disperses icky chemicals and chemical fragrance through your house--I would never use them because I'm allergic to them. You should never use them because there are healthier ways to add scent to your home). The misters are available in eight different blends. Conscious Colors also makes Chakra oils that are applied directly to the skin for activating the body's chakras. Coming soon: my review of the Bright Red aromatherapy oil. Eco Creds: no synthetic ingredients, purse essentials oils. Bottom Line: I love my mister. It's a simple and soothing way to lift my spirits-even when I'm deep in the blahs.-E.D.
