Blue Lotus Organic Cotton Produce Bags : B.Y.O.B.

If you're looking for a way to reduce your use of plastic bags, Blue Lotus makes a variety of organic cotton bags that can be used for produce, bulk grains, and a variety of non-food uses, too.

The bags are lightweight but substantial, with a handy drawstring at the top. I like that I can cinch each bag closed once I fill it with my favorite food items at the grocery store or farmers' market. I also use a Blue Lotus cotton mesh bag.

Because they're cotton they obviously don't provide the waterproofness of a plastic bag, but I can't think of too many grocery items I buy regularly that are too damp or oily that they can't make the short trip back to my house without soaking my grocery tote.

I also use my Blue Lotus bags for travel. Thanks to the drawstring closure I can pack my medicine, cosmetics, and other small items in the bags. When the bags get dirty, I just toss them in the wash (click here to read about eco laundry soap) and hang them to dry.
