Big Agnes Milner Camp Booty

I hate cold feet more than anything, so I was thrilled to test out Big Agnes's Milner Malls Booties. These poofy, synthetically-insulated camp booties are toasty warm, super comfy, and eco friendly to the max.

I had a chance to test them for a few days recently during a quick visit to the mountains above Santa Fe. Winter was approaching, and we were camping high in the hills. With temperatures well below freezing and a layer of snow on the ground, the conditions were conspiring to make my feet cold. Good thing I had the Big Agnes defense.

At the end of these frigid nights, I plunked my feet in the booties and zipped myself up in my bag. I was warm. The soles are relatively thin, which makes these booties great inside sleeping bags. Some other booties I've had use a thick foam layer as a sole, which made me feel like I was wearing a pair of shoes to bed. Not so with these.

I also love the placement of the draw cord; since it's just above the ankle, it keeps the booties from falling off my feet. Competitors have draw cord at the very top, which means the fabric and insulation inevitably falls down and the booties start to slip off. I also love the rubbery coating on the sole -- it makes me feel a little more sure footed as I wander around in the cold dark of night.

These camp booties work well, but they also make me feel good. All the fabric used in their construction is 100 percent recycled, and the Primaloft(TM) eco insulation is 50 percent recycled. Also, the liner fabric is made of polyester blended with sustainable bamboo fibers -- good for stink reduction.

Bottom Line: Eco-friendly booties that keep my toes toasty warm.--N.W. (Jan 09)

Price: $45 (on sale $28.99); (on sale $33.95)
