Avalon Organics Vitamin C Moisture Plus Lotion with SPF 15: Creamy Hydration and Protection

I'm a bit neurotic, so my primary concern with any product I use on my face is: will it make my face shiny. I hate when that happens.

When I first applied my Avalon Organics Vitamin C Moisture Plus with SPF 15 lotion, I thought, " this is too much lotion for me." I was wrong. The lotion is very thick, more like a cream, and my skin soaked it right up. (FYI, a little dab goes a long way.) The next test: efficacy.

After several hour-long outings, I'm happy to report that my AO Vity C lotion definitely hydrates my skin, as well as provides basic sun protection. What I like about it most is that it doesn't clog my pores or turn my face into an oil slick. So often, I wear a sunscreen or lotion with SPF and end up with a grease pit for a face an hour later.

In fact, I often leave on the lotion for many hours, and my skin still looks the same. I've even skipped my night-time cleansing a few times and the next day my skin looked fine. With most sunscreens, I break out the next day even if I wash my face before I go to bed.

I'm testing a handful of Avalon Organics products this month, and enjoying every moment. I like that this lotion is formulated out of natural ingredients and that it does not contain synthetic fragrance. It has a light orange scent, which is unnoticeable after application. That's a bonus for me - I don't like using scented facial products.

In addition to its sun blocking ingredients, AO's Vity C lotion is loaded with natural products such as vitamins (C, E, and B5), flax seed oil, organic lavender and calendula oils, aloe, and essential oils. I can't really provide proof of the free radical protection I receive from using this product, but I feel good knowing I'm using it.

I see this lotion as more of a daily moisturizer that provides some SPF than as a sunscreen. For this reason, I wear it more when I know I'll be outside than during more strenuous outings such as hikes or power walks. I walked all over town today, wearing a day pack and carrying a bag of groceries, and when the sweat started pouring down my face I did feel the lotion getting in my eyes a bit. It didn't sting or anything, but just made me realize that this lotion isn't ideal for super sweaty endeavors.
