Alba Bontanica Organic Lavender Sunscreen SPF 30 : Eco Friendly and Effective
One of the things I don't like about sunscreens is the film they leave on the water when I dive into the lake. I'd like to think that the products I'm using to protect my skin won't harm the resident ducks and turtles or their environment. So, I try to choose lotions that soak into my skin rather than oils that sit on top of my skin and come off easily in water. I recently tried the Alba Botanica water-resistant sunscreen with SPF 30 UVA/UVB protection in it. I like the lavender scent (the lotion contains organic lavender, not a chemical fragrance), which I think is a creative change to the typical smell of most sunscreens. I also like that this lotion is very moisturizing and doesn't feel sticky after I've rubbed it in. This sunscreen also contains aloe vera, chamomile, and green tea to protect and soothe the skin. I applied it on my arms and shoulders just before I went out on my jet ski on a very hot day in full sun. When I dove into the water to cool off just before getting on my jet ski, my sunscreen didn't leave any sort of residue or film floating on the water that I could see. That was a big plus in my book! I was out on the lake, both jet skiing and swimming, for about three hours. Even though I was wearing SPF 30 as opposed to a higher SPF for that amount of time spend out in the sun, it seemed to do its job very well. My arms and shoulders did not get burned. Even after going in and out of the water several times I could still feel it and smell it on my arms later that afternoon, which means it was still on my skin protecting me from the sun. The instructions on the tube say to reapply the lotion every time you come out of the water, and although that's surely good advice, I think I got a lot of mileage out my lotion by applying a good amount on my first pass. It's a good idea to let it soak in for a few minutes before jumping into the water, and then apply lighter applications of it throughout the day on your most vulnerable areas (neck and shoulders, top of feet, etc). I have started using the Alba Botanica sunscreen because it does such a great job of moisturizing my skin, it smells good, and it does a great job protecting my skin. Whenever I'm a family outing or get together with friends, I pass around this sweet-smelling, super effective lotion so everyone can be protected from the sun's rays. Eco Creds: Paraben--free, made in the USA, no animal testing, no synthetic colors, hypo-allergenic, EU Cosmetics Directive Compliant, 100% vegetarian ingredients. Bottom Line:If you have to slather your skin with something, I'd definitely recommend a product that offers several benefits in one application, both to save money and so you're more likely to proactively protect your skin. --N.S.
