Ailin Taranaki Skirt : Slim Eco Style

I spend most of my summers in skirts. They're fun, flirty, and a lot more comfortable than shorts. (Who doesn't love the simplicity and fit options of the elastic waistband.) Since most of my skirts are of the sporty variety, I've been looking for something a bit longer for fall, something definitely fancier, yet still easy wear and easy wash. I found exactly what I want in Ailin's versatile Taranaki Skirt.

I love the skirt's simple, elegant design. It has a 2-inch wide, ribbed elasticized waistband (which also incorporates a drawstring); there's an even wider band of the same material around the bottom of the skirt. The effect is a straight cut, straight shooting skirt that's flattering, slimming, and narrow enough to make me slow down and actually walk "like a lady" (something my mother has tried to get me to do for 40 years.) That may sound silly, but until I wore this skirt I didn't get it. When you're wearing an elegant garment, even one as comfortable as the Taranaki skirt, you have to step it up a bit to carry off the style.

Then again, I've worn this skirt with flip flops and a t-shirt. And it has pockets--which I use all the time for my keys and lip balm. Even in casual mode, I feel fancy in it.

I'm normally a cotton fan, but this stretchy Supplex skirt hangs beautifully, hugs where it should, and always looks good. I've worn it to parties, out to dinner, and even to a memorial service. In the past, I was always afraid to wear my "nice" clothes too often, fearing I'd stain them or have to dry clean them. With my Taranaki skirt, I feel free to wear it any time, any place. When a toddler with sticky hands childhandled my skirt at a reception, I didn't even think about it. When I got home, I just threw my skirt in the wash. It dried on the line quickly, and looked great the next day.

Because of its versatility and easy-to-care-for fabric, the Taranaki is ideal for both active women and travelers. I certainly don't plan on ever leaving it at home!.

Ailin is an eco-sensitive company that uses recycled polyester fibers, bamboo, and other sustainable materials. Their apparel is made in Canada. They refer to their clothing as "performance fashion," and I think they've hit the mark. Innovative design paired with fabrics that can go the distance. I look forward to featuring more of their products.

Bottom Line: A well-designed, classic skirt that has become a regular in my wardrobe. I can't believe how good it looks on me (if I do say so myself!).--E.D. (Sept 08)
