Mineral Fusion Makeup

I'm all over natural body products, but makeup just ain't my bag. So, when Mineral Fusion contacted me about testing some of their makeup, I turned to a pro, friend, neighbor, and fashion blogger, Kamie Kahlo.

Kamie's been working as a photo stylist and graphic artist for years, so I knew she'd be excited about this natural makeup line AND be the right person to give Natalie, one of our body product testers who owns a boat detailing business, a makeover. Natalie was the perfect test subject because she doesn't wear makeup for her job, but was interested in knowing more about natural products she could use for evenings and other occasions. I was happy to watch, listen, and learn.

Base, part one

We started with Mineral Fusion's Sheer Tint Foundation, Concealer Duo, and Face Primer. Kamie applied the "warm" tone liquid foundation on half of Natalie's face and the primer on the other half so that we could compare the difference.

I should add here that Kamie applied all of these products with various makeup brushes, which she sanitized before we began. Initially, Kamie thought the foundation tint might be to "yellow" for Natalie's skin but would be a better product to use in the summer when her skin is darker. Still, it looked nice and did a good job of smoothing out Natalie's skin color.

Next, Kamie applied the gel primer to the other half of Natalie's face, then applied the Concealer Duo. The duo compact comes with a light shade and a dark shade. The lighter shade is for concealing dark circles under the eyes, and the dark shade acts as a primer for the top lid and can be used to cover red spots or blemishes anywhere on the face. Kamie used another brush to sweep over both shades and brush Natalie's nose and smooth out her face.

The results were incredible. Natalie has nice skin to begin with, but after the makeup application, her skin looked fantastic. Smooth, healthy, radiant. More important, it looked natural and clean. This was a big surprise for me because I thought makeup was about plastering on a shiny, colored face. But Kamie set me straight. "The goal is to get your skin to look its best," she explained, "not to make you look like someone else." When we held up the mirror Natalie said, "Oh my gosh, I love it." Then she turned to me and said, "write down 'subject is happy.'"

So, a little education here. The primer is a product anyone can use. It fills in fine lines and gives the skin an airbrushed texture. It's a wonderful base on which to apply the Mineral Fusion foundation or "Base" products. It also gives the skin a velvety, matte appearance. Using the Sheer Tint alone gave Natalie's face more color and a more dewy appearance. After we tested some other Base products from Mineral Fusion, Kamie recommended that the Sheer Tint would be best for on-the-go use, travel, and when Natalie has tanned skin.
